Fuel System Replacement
Important element of a reliable car is to make sure the fuel will be delivered consistently towards the engine. Not knowing if the fuel pump and filters have been replaced in the lifetime of the car, it is a wise idea to replace it and along with it to substitute the hoses as well as they wear down over time and run the risk of leaking fuel with all consequences...
As you can see the fuel pump assembly is really subject to weather and road conditions. Looking at the hoses, it was clearly a good idea to replace them.
So disassembled the fuel system to allow a proper cleaning.
For the frame elements, I had to remove the rust using an acid bath before thoroughly cleansing the parts.
And then made sure to protect the frame parts with a metallic paint also preventing further rusting.
All parts I wanted to reuse have been cleaned and frame parts repainted.
At Mercedes Source I had ordered a fuel delivery overhaul kit:
Apart from the parts in the kit, you also get an 1-hour step-by-step video how to dis(assemble) the fuel delivery system. Below Ken explains about this kit in the following short video:
After following his video step-by-step, I was able to produce the similar result ;-)
At the garage the mechanic also replaced the fuel hose from the tank towards the fuel delivery assembly and with this also replaced the filter in the fuel tank:
So, a safe feeling to start the 2023 season with my beloved car!
