Fuel System Replacement

Fuel System Replacement
Recreated fuel delivery system just before being mounted back into the car

Important element of a reliable car is to make sure the fuel will be delivered consistently towards the engine. Not knowing if the fuel pump and filters have been replaced in the lifetime of the car, it is a wise idea to replace it and along with it to substitute the hoses as well as they wear down over time and run the risk of leaking fuel with all consequences...

The fuel delivery system as it came off the car

As you can see the fuel pump assembly is really subject to weather and road conditions. Looking at the hoses, it was clearly a good idea to replace them.

Rust at multiple places
Especially the metal pipes

So disassembled the fuel system to allow a proper cleaning.

Removed the majority of the rust

For the frame elements, I had to remove the rust using an acid bath before thoroughly cleansing the parts.

And covered it with Hammerite metallic paint

And then made sure to protect the frame parts with a metallic paint also preventing further rusting.

All the bits cleaned
As well as the rubber bands to hold pumps and accumulator

All parts I wanted to reuse have been cleaned and frame parts repainted.
